Cryo Turtle Zane - Slaughter ShaftZane build by Suave Matthews updated 6 months ago
I'm a big Zane fan, but unfortunately he struggles in Slaughter Shaft compared to Moze and Amara. I spent a lot of time testing various builds that would reliably get Zane through slaughter shaft on M3, and I settled on this Cryo Turtle Zane. This build revolves around cool calm and collected keeping 100% uptime on drone and shield dome, giving a constant +40% damage along with the drones bonus dps. Cryo bullets on the drone helps you freeze targets when your cool downs are close to expiring.
In the green tree We invest 5/5 in ready for action to help keep our shield full, which allows CCC to restore our cool downs. We also have 2/3 in refreshment for 16% lifesteal on frozen targets just incase our 5/5 salvation kill skill isn't active. I put 3/3 in stiff upper lip because rocket launchers hurt, but those points can be allocated into rise to the occasion for additional health regeneration, though I don't recommend it. I also advise against increasing shield capacity because you're going to be spending most of your time in the dome anyway.
Moving onto the blue tree we have violent momentum and salvation at 5/5 to get us down to death follows close, giving salvation 15 second uptime after each kill. This also unlocks both Cryo bullets and static field to help with shield up time (assuming the augment even works, because Zane). If you have a recurring Cryo hex grenade, I recommend investing 1 point into drone delivery which will assist with freezing enemies and keeping your Cooldowns up.
Lastly in the red tree we are getting a potential 65% gun damage and 2.5% health regeneration assuming our abilities and kill skills are active. Our last 3 points can go into borrowed time if you need more breathing room for getting freezes, however I find the bonus time to be negligible. After testing with all 5 points into borrowed time, we only get an extra 3-5 seconds on our shield uptime. I would rather have the slight magazine increase, so we invest 3/3 into that.
Let's talk about gear. I highly recommend a recharger shield of any type, preferably Zen Recharger or Druidic Recharger if you can find one. I personally use Druidic for the +5% health regeneration at full shields, which helps you stay topped off for calm cool and collected. I use an Executor class mod for its kill skill buffs. If you can find a mod with +3 or more into brain freeze it might be worth running, but I have yet to find one. I use a Last Stand Victory Rush artifact that gives temporary invulnerability when health drops below 50%, giving you 5 seconds to freeze a target for health regeneration. It also gives +29% Cryo efficiency and +40% magazine size, which is a nice bonus. If you're rocking drone delivery, I recommend any Cryo hex grenades you can find. Helps a ton with keeping your abilities up.
Guns: Brainstormer Auditing Crossroads/Night Hawkin Lucians Call (Cryo) Fire Crossroads/Fire Rowans/Searing Nemesis/Hellwalker/etc
I use a brainstormer to strip shields before swapping to the crossroads to get freezes. I find that it is by far the quickest to freeze enemies, sometimes successfully freezing in one burst of headshots. Once frozen, I swap to the Lucians for easy headshots, meaning you rarely have to reload the Lucians which saves on ammo. In the fourth slot I use a fire weapon of any type specifically for anointed goons. I typically don't run an SMG because the crossroads is pretty ammo hungry. The hellwalker is a good choice if you don't use the brainstormer much, but I'm a fan or rocking either the fire rowans or a searing nemesis. The nemesis does a surprising amount of damage for a pistol, and it doesn't tap into the ammo reserve of your main weapons.
