Zane Barrier + Digi-clone Chernobyl BuildZane build by dww27 updated 3 weeks ago
I got this idea last night while looking through my bank and thinking about builds to try in Mayhem 4. I want to try to find a viable Zane build outside of the current Seein' Dead meta, and, after reading this post this morning and thinking more about the gear I've acquired, I believe I might be on to something.
- Cold Warrior w/bonus point(s) to Trick of the Light
- Red Suit
- Generator Tran-fusion
- Atom Balm Victory Rush
The basic idea behind the build is that your Barrier uses the All-Rounder and Deterrence Field augments to protect your Digi-clone, which draws enemy aggression via Which One's Real? and helps you freeze enemies (keeping the Barrier and Digi-clone active due to Cool, Calm, Collected) because you'll be activating Bonus Cryo Damage via Trick of the Light. Hopefully, the combination of the Barrier with those augments and Zane's Boom. Enhance skill keeps the Digi-clone alive and in the fight.
The first piece of gear we'll need is the Cold Warrior w/bonus point(s) to Trick of the Light. Like any build that uses CCC, freezing enemies to keep our Action Skills active is the name of the game. So the additional random elemental damage from the Cold Warrior for simply doing the thing that's central to our build is nice. Since we're only going to have one point to spend on Trick of the Light, which is really going to help us with freezing enemies, we need a roll of the Cold Warrior that gives at least one bonus point to that skill.
Nothing novel so far, but here's where things could get interesting…
We're throwing a full 26 points in the Barrier tree and unlocking Distributed Denial because we're pairing it with the Red Suit. Now, enemies near our Barrier take Radiation damage. But it gets better because our Digi-clone gets a copy of our shield too, so it does Radiation damage to nearby enemies just like we do, giving us an extra source of Radiation damage from having our Action Skills activated.
Our next source of Radiation damage is the Nuclear Tran-fusion grenade mod, which heals for 120% of health damage dealt and 60% of shield damage dealt. As long as we're killing enemies and keeping our Barrier + Digi-clone between us and them, we should be easily refreshing those Action Skill durations with CCC while getting good grenade/Radiation damage via Fractal Frags.
The last piece of gear that makes up the core of this Radiation damage theme is the Atom Balm Victory Rush, which comes with 50% Aura Damage, 18% Aura Burst Damage, and 18% Aura Burst Radius. This artifact should combine very well with our Action Skills and grenade mod to provide us with multiple sources of significant Radiation damage that also serve to keep enemies away from/not focused on us.
Other Gear That's Probably Nice to Have
- Rowan's Call
- Night Hawkin, anointed w/+60% accuracy & +30% critical damage while Barrier active
- Craps, anointed w/+130% weapon damage after Digi-clone swap
I think the best way to approach combat with this build is to make sure to find a spot on the battlefield that allows you to keep most, if not all, of the action in front of you. Finding a bottleneck no wider than your Barrier and staying behind your Barrier + Digi-clone seems like it would be ideal.
Here's how I imagine it working:
- Throw the Barrier down and activate the Digi-clone in the middle of it.
- Stay behind the Barrier + Digi-clone, switching places with the Digi-clone then immediately switching back behind the Barrier every five seconds to keep Which One's Real? activated.
- Land crits and freeze enemies.
- Repeat Steps 2 & 3.
I haven't actually tested this build yet. It's just been on my mind today, and I wanted to share it. I'll updated this post with some notes on how it fares if people are interested.
